Will Apple sell smaller iPhone?

Based on Bloomberg [2011-02-11] ‘Apple is working on a new version of the iPhone that are aimed at slowing the advance of competing handsets based on Google Inc.’s Android software, according to people who have been briefed on the plans.’

A new version of the phone will be about 30% smaller, will not have the Home button and will be less expensive than the iPhone 4. Apple might be selling the new iPhone for about $200.

The company has been planning to announce the new device in a few months. However, it might be either delayed or perhaps canceled.

In the forth quoter of 2010 Google’s share of global smartphone marker reached 32.9% and Apple’s share reached only 16%.  Perhaps the new version of iPhone will be able to help Apple to dominate the smartphone market not only in the US but in the whole world. A cheaper version of the phone might be very popular in the countries such as China, India, and Russia.

iPhone Alarm Bug

property of Apple.com

I hope not to many people had to setup alarm for the first two days of 2011. IT seems that that alarm software is “programmed” not ot go off on January 1st and 2nd. According to apple this problem should be fixed by itself by Monday, January 3. Based on NYTimes, “Yet on Monday morning the problem did not seem to have gone away. A lot of angry iPhone owners wrote in to The New York Times complaining that they had missed flights, were late for work or had failed to drop their kids off for the first day of the 2011 school year — all because the iPhone alarm didn’t work again.” read more …

iPad 2 Case Video

New video was discovered on YouTube that disclosed a bit more details on iPad2 form factor.  the video shows IPad 2 case molding which shows how the next generation iPad might look like. The video suggests it might be a bit smaller, will have rounded edges and will have a flattened back.

Skype Introduces Video on iPhone

PCWorld (2010-12-30) – Skype on Thursday introduced a new version of its iOS app, which enables free video chatting between iPhones, iPods and iPads over WiFi and 3G connections. Skype users will also be able to make video calls with their friends on Windows computers, as well as with Mac users.

The new Skype iOS app is more flexible solution for video chatting than Apple’s own FaceTime, which isbuilt into the OS. Skype users are able to make video calls to other users of the service via WiFi and 3G, whereas FaceTime is limited to WiFi. Skype users can also video chat with either Windows or Mac users of the service, while FaceTime only has a Mac counterpart (so far).

The biggest advantage the Skype iOS app has over FaceTime is that it enables video chatting on older iPhone models and it’s not limited to iPhone 4 and the latest iPod touch. Skype’s iOS app can use the back camera on the iPhone 3GS, creating interoperability between various iOS devices, including iPads (but there is still no iPad screen optimized version of the app, and you can’t initiate video calls). read more…

No white snow for Christmas on iPhone land

Apparently Apply is delaying white iPhone to be available in the US until spring 2011.

Based on the [CNN] Apple says “We are sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we’ve decided to delay its release until this spring.”

So if anybody was thinking about a white iPhone for Christmas you may need to rethink that.

Obama’s signing on iPad

It has not happened before just simple because the iPAd was not available yet. Not sure how much Apple contributed to the Obama election campaign but I think it’s working.

I have to admit that Apple’s iPad is the best ever mobile tablet device . Mr President did signed up on Sylvester Cann’s iPad.

Interesting that the application used for signing is from Adobe. Will it help to improve relationships between Apple and Adobe. I really would like to see the flash running on the iPad and iPhone devices? obama ipad2 500x375 Obama signs iPad
